Chilterns Garden

Created from a dangerous and unusable sloped garden of a period brick and flint cottage in the Chilterns village of Wheeler End Common.

The clients had renovated and extended the period property and the brief was to make the garden not only safe for their young family, but attractive and accessible, as a new garden office was being installed subsequent to the landscaping work.

The garden was steeply sloped and a previous attempt to terrace the garden was being held together by a couple of thin posts and some rusty nails.  The new design created a larger seating area at the bottom of the garden adjacent to the main patio doors from the house, with a central paved terraced seating area secured with timber and stainless steel wire balustrade and finally a top terrace mostly laid to lawn with an area levelled for the new garden office.  All of these areas were linked together with generous steps and bound gravel paths.

Planting was low maintenance but with interest for wildlife, evergreen structure and an area for vegetable growing.
