Marlow Garden

A long term phased design, construction and planting of a family garden in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

When the clients initially moved into the property, the oddly shaped garden was dominated by overgrown laurel hedging and Leylandii trees along the boundaries.  Once these had been removed and the garden opened up with space and light a new design was required to provide seating and entertaining adjacent to the newly refurbished and extended house.

Black slate paving was chosen to compliment and connect to the interior tiling, and the slight gradient on the garden was dealt with by introducing split levels and raised oak sleeper beds. Once planted these raised beds helped give a feeling of enclosure whilst in the seating areas. Oak arches were used to give height and structure in the central part of the design.

The planting consists of a mix of grasses, flowering perennials and evergreen structural shrubs giving a balance of interest through the year with colour and interest in the months the garden is being used the most.

The work has been completed working closely with the clients over a number of years as the property is developed and enhanced inside and out.
